Update from the Fisher Fam

January 24, 2009 – 6:34 am

I can’t believe it has been a month since I wrote. It feels like it has only been a week. Things have been moving along. We have been working hard on the building. Jervis works 10 hour days and comes home dirty and exhausted! Him and some guys went and cut down 900 4-6″ sticks, trees or whatever you want to call them. They did it in 2 days and Jervis said it should have taken them a week. We had to rent horses to pull them out of the jungle. We need the sticks to hold up the plywood that will hold the cement for the ceiling. If all goes as planned we should be able to pour the ceiling in the next month. We got a great deal on the plywood. Down in Punta Gorda the plywood is $70 ($35 US) per sheet. We were able to get it in Belize City for $48 a sheet. We were so excited for the savings wanting to make every dollar count.

The kids are glad to be back in school after their long Christmas break and I am glad I have the mornings to get some things done. Zander just turned 6 months old and now I get to make baby food! I made food for the next month since it is hard to know what vegetables we will have access to. I made eggplant, carrots, string beans and sweet potatoes. I sweet potatoes don’t look like ours. They are bright purple on the outside and light yellow in the inside. But surprisingly they taste just like ours.

We have had some difficult news to bear. Jervis’ Dad has been diagnosed with Metastatic Prostate Cancer and his diabetes is out of control. They don’t have the medicine he needs here in Belize and thankfully Dr. Bruns and our home church Resurrection both of Loveland, CO have donated the medication and HELP International has donated a Glucose Monitor so he can keep better watch on his blood sugars. Please pray with us we still need to get it there and the shipping is $120.
Jervis has also been sick for the last few months. He gets better from one thing and the a few days later he has something else. Please pray he gets better.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. We are blessed to have you in our lives.
Melissa
