How a trip to swim turns in to so much more when you live in Belize….
May 18, 2009 – 4:39 amSo Jervis is up in Belize City until tomorrow, she I get this wise idea that I am going to treat the kids and take them swimming. So we finally get out the door, with all the STUFF and start off to swim. About 20 minutes from the house the truck starts smoking! So I pull over & can’t even figure out how to get the hood up. Not that that would do me any good because I don’t know a thing about vehicles!! So we are not far from a house, so I decide I will go ask for help. I start coming up to the driveway and yelling hello and I hear LOTS of dogs barking. I see one up by the house on a chain so I still keep walking and yelling hello. Then all of a sudden six dogs start charging me and I stand there and then realize none of them are on chains! So I start running and I mean running back to the truck, they are inches from my calf and I am screaming my head off! I have never screamed so loud or been so terrified in my life. I keep turning to look at them and they are still charging me and I am still screaming! I am laughing so hard right now at what I looked like, of course at the time it was not even funny. Finally as I am inches from the truck the lady yells at them and they start to leave. Thank you Jesus, I don’t have a big dog bite on my leg!
Then the lady doesn’t have a phone and let me tell you it is HOT! So there I am with six kids, sweating and trying to figure out how we are going to get home. To make a long story short, somehow she gets a hold of someone, who gets a hold of someone to pick us up. We decide we will still go swimming and someone else will come and pick us up. We have a great time at the pool, the babies love it and of course the kids do. Let’s just say I had my ride come about 30 minutes too late. It starts pouring down sheets of rain and he is picking us up in our small truck that has no windshield wipers! So he pulls up with his dog and girlfriend and we have 7 of us. So we put 3 adults, 2 babies and Juni in the single cab. And I get in the back with Micah, Analiya and the dog in the pouring rain! Thankfully he did bring a tarp! Boy, did I look like a true Belizean!
Well the end of the story is we make it home safe and sound and even managed to get the other truck back. It was humorous to say the least and gave me something fun to write home about!
P.S. I will be sending an update on Christina this week with new pics!
