One Year Anniversary!
February 24, 2009 – 8:37 pmHello to all,
Well, this month we celebrated our one year anniversary as missionaries in Belize. It is amazing how much you can go through in a year. There are a million stories I can look back on, but it would take a book to recall them all. We have made so much progress on the building. There are times it feels like we will never finish or never have the money. But, God has been so faithful! In a few weeks we have a team of 29 coming down. We are praying we will finally be able to pour the ceiling while they are here. If it works out it will be perfect timing, we would have had to hire 30 men to help with a pour, but with all of them we will only need to hire a few men; which will save so much financially.
We have met so many locals and feel we have established some really good relationships. We are figuring out all the cultural differences and being able to understand the way of the people. We pray we will continue to be an example of Christ’s love and acceptance.
Of course of biggest accomplishment is with the children. Even though Zeki is gone, we know that he left this world loved. It has been a year on Valentine’s Day that we received Zeki and his brother Juni. Talk about changes, Juni is a different kid. From going to the bathroom in the yard, not speaking any English and not knowing anything about Jesus. He now goes to the bathroom like the rest of us!! Understands and talks pretty good English and is the first one to remind us he has to pray at night. I remember at one point wondering if he would ever sing. With my kids I remember at a very young age singing to them and them singing back. I would always sing to Juni and he would just stare at me, I would say sing with me Juni and nothing. Now you hear him go around the house singing about Jesus, it is so cute!
Then there is Zander, of course he has captured all our hearts, especially mine!!! His surgeries all went well and we thank the Lord for his provision in taking care of every detail. It is hard to believe that he is 7 months old and weighs 24 lbs.! My other kids didn’t weigh that much until they were over a year old!
Things have not always turned out the way we dreamed they would have before coming here, but we have seen the faithfulness of God every step of the way. Thank you for all your prayers and support over the last year, we pray you will continue to journey with us.
In Him,
Melissa
