Easter 2008 Update
March 25, 2008 – 9:47 pmHello everyone,
I pray that you are all doing well and that you had a good Easter week and remembered the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
This last few weeks have been really busy for us. The High School Seniors from our church came for a week and helped with construction and we also took them into the villages. There were 20 of them and 14 of us so we had a lot of people to feed and take care of. We had such a great week with them and truly enjoyed all the extra work. They were such a blessing and we watched as the Lord opened up their hearts and impacted their lives for eternity.
I am adding some more pictures to snapfish. Sorry I didn’t explain the last pictures. The thatch building that you see being built is a place for us to store our construction materials and eventually we will build a Mayan kitchen in it to help save on propane. This week we were able to finish the building and it it’s so cool to see it on the property. The Rez team helped put the leaves on for roofing and they also helped dig trenches for the foundation of the next building. The next building will be our staff housing and main kitchen. We have three families that will be living with us. So the building will have four, two bedroom apartments. I don’t know that you would really call it an apartment; it will just be two bedrooms and a bathroom. Similar to a hotel; there will not be a living room or a kitchen. The upstairs will have the main kitchen and living room, along with the school room and office. This building will be built of cement so that we have a hurricane shelter. We are praying that we are able to finish this building in the next 6-9 months. After this is built we will build the area for the children. We wanted to build everything at once but realized the more we build the longer we pay rent. So I guess we have to start somewhere.
Here is the progress we have made on the property since the purchase on Feb 15th:
-cleared 5 acres of jungle
-made a road
-completed our first building to be used for storage
-dug the trenches for the foundation
The $6,000 was due on the van yesterday. The bad news is, we didn’t have the money. The good news is they gave us another 30 day extension!! So once again we see God’s faithfulness. Speaking of which, we just want to give you all a praise report on our finances. We left Colorado not having all the money we needed and especially not the monthly support that we needed. And here we are almost two months later and God has been so faithful. We have always had the money we needed. It didn’t matter what was needed gas, rent money, food, water or construction materials. Every time the money was there. We would be down to our last ten dollars and money would show up. So we just want to thank you all for your obedience and for allowing us to fulfill the call of God on our lives.
Also, I can’t remember if I mentioned that Lori (a lady on our team) and I have now become the Children’s Pastors at the church. We started with 8 kids and in 3 short weeks we now have almost 30. Word sure does spread fast!
In Christ,
Jervis and Melissa Fisher
